This course provides an in-depth understanding of how amino groups are processed and disposed of in the human body. It covers the biochemical pathways involved in amino acid catabolism, including transamination and oxidative deamination. Special emphasis is given to the role of glutamate, alanine, and glutamine in ammonia transport, the enzymatic mechanisms involved, and the clinical significance of ammonia toxicity.
