Purpose: This unit gives an overview of the Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) schemes and the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). It describes the concept and need for health insurance besides elaborating upon various types of Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) schemes in India, and the process and issues related to their implementation. It also describes the features of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana and its implementation process in India.
